What We’re Working On
Addressing Dementia
Pharmzandia’s therapeutic solution for dementia aims not just to slow down its progression but to reverse it. Our approach goes beyond restoring the original cognitive state—it enhances cognitive function, potentially leading to increased productivity and what we call Augmented Intelligence (AI).
A Big Impact Problem
The world faces a growing crisis: an aging population combined with the rising prevalence of neurological disorders. By 2050, over 20% of the global population will be 60 or older, with more than 20% of them expected to suffer from neurological conditions. Dementia, the most common neurological disorder, has become the leading cause of disability, affecting over one billion people and costing the world economy $3 trillion annually.
A Difficult Problem to Solve
Developing drugs for the central nervous system (CNS) is particularly challenging.
Lack of Accurate Diagnosis – Neurological degeneration is complex, making it difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of a condition. Current diagnostic tools do not effectively identify the root of the disease, leading to treatments that only address symptoms rather than underlying causes.
Complex Disease Pathways – Neurological disorders are like vast branching trees. Most existing CNS drugs target only the branches near the surface rather than the root cause, limiting their effectiveness.
Delivery Challenges – Even when a root cause is identified, delivering the drug to the affected areas remains difficult. Barriers like the blood-brain barrier (BBB), blood-gut barrier (BGB), and cell membranes prevent many drugs from reaching their intended target and maintaining effectiveness.
Pharmzandia is tackling these challenges with advanced nano medicine technology to develop truly effective solutions for dementia and other neurological disorders.
